Dimensions (inches): 16"x11"x20"

Estimated Weight: 320 lbs

Likeness: Sakyamuni Maitre Buddha

Depiction: Bhumisparsa or "Touching the Earth" mudra-

Literally, Bhumisparsha translates into touching the earth. The gesture of "touching the earth" or as it is also referred to the “earth witness" mudra commemorates the posture in which Shakyamuni overcame the obstructions of the demon Mara while meditating on Truth. This mudra, formed with all five fingers of the right hand extended to touch the ground, symbolizes the Buddha's enlightenment under the bodhi tree, when he summoned the earth goddess, Sthavara, to bear witness to his attainment of enlightenment.

Material Type: Marble Stone

Age: Circa 1880 AD

Background / History: We purchased this statue in Burma and shipped it to its current location in Boulder County, CO.

Specific Details: This incredible antique Bhumisparsa Buddha statue is sculpted from a dense cut of white Burmese marble stone, with a ancient looking patina, complete with the original natural polychrome pigments. This beautifully carved sculpture was created by hand from a solid piece of dense, heavy marble. The proportions and details of this hand carved statue are unique, accurate and clean. This piece of art is of temple quality and, when properly cared for, can last hundreds if not thousands of years.
