Specific Details:
This is a restored antique standing Buddha Statue from the 2nd Classic Period (1827-1893) in Northern Laos. The Buddha is depicted standing with long arms (a classic sign of Buddha) poised at his side. This depiction of Buddha is very unique to northern Laos and is referred to as the "Calling for Rain" mudra. This original hand carved sculpture is gold gilded on teak wood and was carved circa 1827-1893. This Buddha has a custom carved hole near the base as seen in the photos, where one could place an umbrella, flowers, or other ornament or offering!

**Please note the details in the photos where you can see checking in the wood and seams from the restorative efforts.**

*The Buddha stands with hands at his sides, palms facing inward toward body, fingers pointing towards the ground and one foot extended very slightly forward. This posture is unique to Laos and originates from a remote forest temple. This Buddha, with primitive design influences, is adorned with a royal flaming robe and larger than usual "Unisa" (head top knot - symbolic flame of enlightenment). This rare statue, is gilded in gold paint over black lacquer covering the one piece teak body (arms may have been restored...see photos) and presents a striking presence along with impressive size. The "calling for rain" mudra was one of the miracles in the story and life of Lord Buddha when, after years of drought, Buddha stood in meditation and summoned the rain ended the drought and created a rainfall that brought nourishment to the rice fields.

This is a striking, rare, piece of artwork, guaranteed to please!
